4NewsWall
for Channel 4 News

4NewsWall set out to engage a 16-34 demographic, who aren’t consuming news. We came up with the idea of presenting news headlines in gifs and had to figure out how this could work across social media.

The news in gifs

After initially building a prototype, we ran a series of tests, creating multiple versions of gifs with different styles, tones, and rules. The user journey was really important. We wanted to have simple headlines with engaging animations on social and allow people to click through to the website to get the full story.

Built using Tumblr

Another important factor to explore technically was how the processor-heavy and not widely supported gif format would work across mobile devices and social media. Working with Resn, we designed, built, and developed the responsive 4NewsWall website using Tumblrs backend services.

Campaign top 10 innovation

4NewsWall picked up notable press coverage including Creative Review, The Guardian and It’s Nice That, to name a few. It also picked up numerous awards including gold at the Campaign Big Awards and was the highest-scoring entry from the UK at the Lovie Awards (Beating Google).

It later went on to feature in Campaigns’ top 10 innovations of the year.
