Every couple of years or so, E4 get their audience’s creativity juices flowing by asking them to make some on-air stings for the channel as part of a competition. The best ones then get selected by a judging panel to go on air. This process had always been a bit clunky though, with users having to visit an arduous website to enter their work and the judging process was always held behind closed doors. This year, they wanted to make it more socially friendly and came to me to see how this could be achieved.
The solution was to allow users to enter their work simply via Twitter and a Youtube link. We partnered with a social platform called Spredfast, allowing us to monitor and filter through all of the entries. After this we were able to get our shortlist and judge the winners that now sit proudly on E4 every day.
To make this even sweeter, we then put our favourites into a knock out tournament and had head to head rumbles everyday on air. Viewers of E4 could vote for the best simply by tweeting the hashtag of their favourite until eventually, the final people’s choice champion was crowned! Both the judges winner and the people’s choice winner were given cash prizes prompting happy, smiley faces all round. A challenging but awesome campaign to work on.
